Medicaid has a program called HIPP, the Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) program is a state Medicaid program that reimburses eligible people for their share of an employer-sponsored health insurance premium payment. The program reimburses insurance premiums if it is more cost-effective than paying Medicaid expenditures. This may include coverage for the full family premium or partial family premium. YES!! Medicaid could pay your monthly premium for your ENTIRE family through your employer sponsored insurance.
What does this mean?
If your child is eligible for an employer sponsored health plan (through their guardians employer), but it's just too expensive for you to cover then Medicaid will pay that premium.
Who is eligible?
Individuals enrolled in any Medicaid program, except for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and STAR Health managed care program, are eligible to enroll in HIPP.
How is it paid?
Medicaid will reimburse you the amount of the premium, so you will have to pay for it out of your check like your own insurance but will be reimbursed the month the eligibility kicks in.
